Tasmania.. Cradle Mountain - Day 5

Published on 15 October 2022 at 22:34

Today we decided we will explore Cradle Mountain, because today is our last night at Cradle Mountain. We couldn’t get to our destination by car, so we had to use a shuttle bus. Our first stop was Dove Lake. As soon as I got off I saw snow!!! I had never seen snow before. But it was too far away to touch it. Aww… There is a lot of walks near Dove Lake, so we decided to try them out. Who knew that you had to climb 304 steps!! ( I actually counted them) Our second stop was Wombat Pool. ( not actually a pool for wombats, a lake where wombats come to drink water. ) There was a sign that was supposed to say wombat pool, but some kid rubbed of the “L” and now it says Wombat Poo. Once we stopped at Wombat Pool we decided to have lunch.   Warning= DO NOT HAVE LUNCH THERE! There are swooping crows , a crow stole our food.  So you better watch out for them. After we ate lunch we walked to Ronny Creek. Another Warning= if you don’t like leeches watch your step! While we were walking my mum saw something wriggling outside my sisters shoe. Guess what it was?!?! A leech!!! It was fat and long. Yuck! We were a bit behind the others because of this incident. Which doesn’t matter. We got a bit tired so we had a rest and ate food.  We started walking again. The others had stopped for us. While the parents were talking,  kids discovered a wombat! We went up closer. It was so chubby and cute!!! While we were walking we saw more wombats. I counted 26 of them. I was starting to get bored of the wombats.  Then Finally we reached Ronny Creek. It was a bit small. But I didn’t care. My friend had got bitten by a leech on her neck and started getting itchy. She went back to her accommodation on the shuttle bus to get changed. We are going to meet her at the enchanted walk. The enchanted walk wasn’t really enchanted. But the best part was when a wombat was on the footpath and we had to make way for him. It was hilarious! Once we finished the enchanted walk, we decided to have dinner at Pepper’s. So we went home to get changed. We all met at Pepper’s. And boy, it was crowded. It took a while for the food. I had Chips and a Chicken Schnitzel. Delish! For Dessert I had Ice cream Sundae. I think I preferred the Hellyer’s Restaurant better. After dinner we went home and had a good night sleep. Tomorrow we driving to Hobart.

What is a leech?

Leeches are segmented worms in the Subclass Hirudinea that are usually ectoparasitic. They belong to the Class Clitellata (along with earthworms, Subclass Oligochaeta) because of the presence of a clitellum, which is a swelling towards the head of the animal, where the gonads are located.

What does a leech do to a human?

When the leech bite is external, patients' symptoms may include painless bleeding, bruising, itching, burning, irritation, and redness. Patients may present with recurrent epistaxis if they have a nasal leech infestation
